Awesome idea by Mos Def to promote his album and take advantage of the digital world. According to this HipHopDX article, Mos will be selling T-Shirts with his album cover and tracklisting on it, while giving customers a code to download the album online. Soundscan has already approved this to be counted as real album sales, so the next thing to do is wait and see how he sells.
