Lil Wayne: Rebirth (Tracklisting)

I know this is waaaaaaaaaaaay to late and I apologize.  I had a good Thanksgiving and was a little sick before, but it really hit me on Friday.  The one thing I really wanted to post but I  missed was the Lupe mixtape, which I myself haven't even had a chance to hear yet.  Once I get my hands on it, then I will post it here, until then here is some news that came out over the past few days.  Lil Wayne has his album cover and tracklisting which dropped last week, and a confirmed Eminem collaboration is on there so that should be very exciting.

50 Cent & Beanie Sigel Go Off vs Jay-Z

Here we are the year of 2009 and what a year it has been so far.  Jay-Z, Eminem, 50 Cent, and many other big time rappers have either released or will release there albums this year.  If anyone thought Hip Hop was dead I disagree because of all the quality material that we have received this year.  Now with that said the biggest elephant in the room has been this beef between Beanie Sigel and Jay-Z.  The history of Rocafella is something feature films are made of and one day we might get one, until then we get the current news of two men who once seemed like brothers.  Every single person in Hip Hop knows Jay-Z's chess moves over the past decade.  Shawn Carter has allowed himself to be associated with every hot Hip Hop act over the past 10 years.  From being in a few songs with DMX & Ja Rule back in 97, to having Drake featured on his album in 2009, Jay has kept himself relevant by being featured in hot songs for the present time.  Is that a problem?  It could be depending on how you look at it, and in this case Beanie has a problem.

I see Beanie Sigel as probably the most street credible person that Rocafella had back in its day.  Beans was the one who had the soldiers on Jay's side, Beans was the one who went round for round with Jadakiss, and Beans was the one who would deck you if you spoke bad about his big homies.  Five years later, a few jail stints, and much controversy we have found out many truths about Beans and Jay's relationship.  What we have found out is that Jay hasn't really rode with Beanie on a Beanie album, yet takes any help he can get from the Philly Emcee.  Jigga man didn't do much to promote a Beanie Sigel album when he was President of Def Jam, which has also caused much tension.  Along with these few things there are many other subjects and internal conflicts that Rocafella has faced with these two men.  I would timeline this beef if I could but I don't have the time.  Right now I will give you a little taste of the triangle between Jay-Z, 50 Cent, and Beanie Sigel.

This year has been a year of fireworks as I stated earlier, and with 50 Cent jumping into this family beef we have much more news than we can handle.  What was once a friendly tap in an attempt to converse now seems like an all out war to bring down, and crumble the king of New York.  Jay-Z who has been labeled the modern day Frank Sinatra is facing a musical war with one of his biggest fans and now rival in 50 Cent.  The man who once dissed the whole industry and was in return given a shot by Jay is back at it again, but we have to question the motives on hand?  50 Cent claims to run New York and we all know that isn't the truth.  The current state of New York reminds me more of the 5 mafia leaders in "The Godfather" and currently this looks like the beginning of a crazy war.  50 has a pawn in his hand to help him become the best in NYC but what I don't think he understands is he has lost his own city already.  His album has been getting pretty fair reviews compared to his previous work, and at this point whatever commercial success he had has basically vanished.  The business model molded by Jay is one that should be copied because it has proven to be successful, yet many artists still don't understand how it works.  As we watch Beanie Sigel be a pawn in the struggle of power between Jay-Z and 50 Cent, I will leave here a few clips where all 3 men have shots at each other.

The 1st video is of Jay and 50 doing a Reebok commercial from back in the day, and 50 looks oh so much like a kid chillin with is idol.  In the 2nd Video 50 and Beanie do a small performance which was supposed to be for some Myspace concert thing and Beans performs some classics and the new diss him and 50 Cent made, the 3rd Video is of Jay-Z's acceptance speech and a small jab at 50 Cent regarding album sales.  As the checker moves turn into chess moves, this could lead up to be one of the most epic Hip Hop battles since Jay-Z vs Nas.

Lupe Fiasco's Thanksgiving Mixtape?

I don't avidly listen to Lupe Fiasco but I do understand he has some pretty cool music.  Now just because I don't listen to him much doesn't mean I don't like him or don't respect his hustle.  Currently as we all await a new album from Lupe who had previously said he was going to retire, we get this mixtape coming out on Thursday and to tell you the truth I'm very excited to hear what he has to say.  With a lot of rappers crowning themselves the past few years, I truthfully believe Lupe with this mixtape will make the statement he is shooting for.  Your probably asking yourself what statement, and I will let you know next.

While I was doing my Hip Hop browsing today I found out that this mixtape isn't just about Lupe preparing you for his album, or creating himself a buzz, Lupe Fiasco is about to show the world of Hip Hop why he is the best alive, or atleast a top 5 mc in the rap game.  Bold Statement?  For someone who doesn't listen to this guy much, I do believe he can compete with the best at anything.  One thing I like about Lupe is he hasn't fabricated his life as much as some other rappers have.  Another thing that is in his favor is that he actually makes music that people understand, and really believe in.  When people believe your music you can nearly do anything you want, ask Kanye (maybe not anything).  As we wait a few days for this mixtape, let's get ourselves ready for a very competitive Lupe Fiasco here on out.

B.G. Interview w/HipHopDX

I got a chance to read an interview that B.G. did with HipHopDX speaking on many subjects we have been wondering about for the past few years.  In this interview B.G. speaks on his album's delay, the Baby & Cash Money situation, Juvenile, Lil Wayne, etc.  Check it out if you are a big New Orleans fan or Southern Hip Hop fan.

Detox is on its way...

Dr. Dre has said himself that Detox is coming so those of you who had any questions should just take the words of the good doctor.  I know that some of these people can't really be credible in rap these days, but with all the energy created by Eminem's, and 50 Cent's album releases (the latter which hasn't reach the commercial appeal it should've), the three headed monster looks poised for it's last piece.  Dre stated that he has been working on Detox in and out when he has time, because he is working on other artist's material.  I believe that Dr. Dre is telling the truth, I just hope he is getting quality material done as well.

Young Money Album + Tracklisting

I got this from OnSmash and I can't wait to hear the material of the album.  The album tracklisting reminds me of the old school Cash Money days.  This time around it's Lil Wayne's squad and the new guys are coming to run this company.  Let's hope for a good album by these new cats.

The tracklisting is shown just like how it is from OnSmash, here is the link if you want to see the original content.  Click Here

Snoop Dogg Interview w/DJ Green Lantern

Crazy cool interview with Snoop talking about the past and the East Coast West Coast beef.  Check it out!

36 Mafia feat Sean Kingston Dj Tiesto Flo Rida - Feel It

The first thing I want to say is WHAT?  The second thing I want to say is OK...... Now with those two feelings out of the way, this track is very pop and very Flo-Rida.  The features of this track make it something that the world might actually check out, and that could give it a worldwide recognition but right now I'm still like WTF.  Anyways here it is for everyone to check out and give there opinion, good move or bad?

Beyonce's Jump Off

Hello, hello, hello I know its been a few and I've just been waiting for some news to materialize in mainstream rap music.  Today I have a video of Beyonce jumping into the crowd during her Halo song, and this looks very awesome.  Usually celebrities have trouble being around fans and in ways its very understandable, but this right here was just freakin cool.  Here is the video...

Bone Thugs-n-Harmony Is Hip Hop

I love these videos of the classic yep classic group Bone Thugs-n-Harmony.  One video is a freestyle which is three minutes long and very fun to hear them go at it.  In the second video we hear hip-hop history with Bone Thugs just saying things that are hip-hop.  I love the artistic aspect of the second video greatly.  For many of us hip-hop means sooo many different things, from the first place we heard our first song to the first artist we loved bumping.  The fashion, lifestyle, dances, etc that hip-hop has given us is more than we can imagine.  Amazing videos...

Ya Boy - Comeback (Video)

West Coast hip-hop at its finest right here with Ya Boy.  The hook was hard for me to enjoy but this track just grows on you with its different style, and aggressive verses.  Ya Boy has it going good for him I just hope he gets the nationwide success he earns, even though he does sound like Game some.

Gucci Mane feat Usher - Spotlight (Video)

Gucci has been sentenced to a year in jail for violating his parole and from what I hear there are some drugs involved.  I decided to post this song up as it's supposedly one of many songs that has the certified Gucci Mane in.  This song is more commercial but these days Gucci is everywhere.

B.G. - My Hood (Video)

So back to back 50 Cent articles was fun, but now its time to diversify this blog with some southern rap.  The one and only B.G. dropped this video which has a song that is supposedly on his new album.  We all know lately B.G. got arrested but I'm sure everything will be taken care of soon.  Enjoy this song as it has Mannie Fresh and Gar doing a lil hook in it also.

Beanie Sigel feat 50 Cent - I Go Off

Here we go the battle has begun for 50 Cent vs Jay-Z.  Right here we got the fire track from Beanie Sigel feat none other than 50 on the hook.  I know this might be late but for Friday the 13th I think its perfect.  Bad day for Jay in this one, and now I wonder if Kanye has something to say or will we just get nothing at all.  The beat of this track and the verses from Sigel are probably the best I've heard from a rapper in a while.  When it comes to structure the flow is on point, it would've been nice to hear 50 spit some verses though.  Anyhow I feel Jay might hit up Buck for a diss at 50, wouldn't that be fun to hear...

I would like to thank thisis50 for the pic and the song, I give credit where credit is due!

50 Cent: Before I Self Destruct (Album Review)

Ok, yesterday I posted up my first interview session ever on this site and to me it seemed like a great success for the future.  Tonight I want to post up my first album review which I feel could also be another step up for this blog.  Currently in my cd player I have Jay-Z's Blueprint 3 playing but as the itunes release date has arrived for this album, and all the press this man has created for himself, 50 Cent's Before I Self Destruct will be the first album I will officially review.  I know I've stated before that I'm not blogging just on 50 Cent, and as much as it might feel that way, he is the easiest artist for me to blog about so I shall start off easy and then take on the challenges.

Track 1 - The Invasion

This track right here starts the album off the right way, aggressive.  50 goes hard with a flow that rides the beat well, and a hook that has everyone ready to fight.  Production wise Ty Fiffe gives 50 Cent the element he needs to start the album off the right way.

Track 2 - Then Days Went By

More of a mixtape track I could here Lloyd Banks put this on one of his PLK mixtapes, but instead we find this on Mr. Jackson's album.  Once again 50's lyrics are on point, but this track slows down the album some from the fire it had in the intro.  For me a few hardcore songs would've been perfect to start off this self destruction, but I guess 50 didn't think so.

Track 3 - Death To My Enemies

If this would've been track 2 then the album would've flowed perfectly for the first few tracks.  A violent beat and violent track which has the perfect formula of Dr. Dre and 50 Cent doing what they do best, gangsta music.  Of course Curtis isn't shy to make references himself as he decides to take a shot at Lil Wayne's "The Carter" album but it isn't a direct diss, it's more of a "my album is violent, vicious, and not nice."

Track 4 - So Disresepectful

Right here this track is probably the gem of the album for me because it reminds me so much of piggybank.  No this is not the same type of diss track but more of a response to everything that has happened over the past few years.  From his fallout with his baby momma to his fallout with his former G-Unit members, Curtis let's them know that he will not be very nice if you cross him.

Track 5 - Psycho

Another track that fits in perfectly with the flow of the album is the Eminem featured "Psycho".  On here we get our boy rapping quick, fast, and different compared to what he has been doing lately, and Eminem doing his usual justice on a track.  Not much bad to say here except they better make a video for this or I'll be mad, oh yeah Eminem does the old school flow again which is very refreshing.

Track 6 - Hold Me Down

Once again the one knock that has been following 50 Cent for the past few years catches up to him on this song.  The singing hook, the slow beat, the boring same old raps is the formula used here and its a dud on an album which was starting to get me wondering what was coming next.  This beat sounds out of place in this album where murder, killing, and straight up world war 3 was about to take place.

Track 7 - Crimewave

With the filler track coming before this we finally get another street anthem which in my opinion is very similar to Lloyd Banks "Warrior".  The bounce, the grimy sounds, and the overall feel of this song makes me want to go and do something bad.  I know this is the same old murder talk and gangster talk, but the hook is catchy, and there is no loss of aggressiveness here.

Track 8 - Stretch

I frequent Thisis50.com often so when I had a chance to see the video for this song it was very intriguing.  The hook is very catchy on this song and the beat is very twisted.  In my opinion this is the perfect drug dealer track.

Track 9 - Strong Enough

More of a chill track and another song which sounds like it should be on a mixtape.  That would be the simplest way to put this, and I would like to say that the song is very New York.  The sample is nice, and once again Curtis let's us know that he isn't here for the nation, he is here for the hood on this album.

Track 10 - Get It Hot

On an album where I had felt 3 songs didn't belong this track right here should have not ever been released.  It has Lloyd Banks on the hook and the beat sounds way out of place along with many other negatives.  The beat sounds too simple and just plain.  I understand that this album needed a hardcore yet commercial single but this is just a weak attempt and a big dud.

Track 11 - Gangsta's Delight

After killing my ears with the last track we get another song that is back to the dark, gritty, and grimy direction this album previously had.  On this track we get more of a throw back sounding beat which is also very modern.  Along with a nice beat the verses are on point and the emotion we hear on this track has me very convinced that when 50 has a chance to be mean, he will be mean.

Track 12 - I Got Swag

One thing that is for sure is that 50 knows how to write hooks, and this song is a great example.  The verses are good and creative are again, while the production is fresh yet it sounds like something that shouldn't be on an album.  Something that I liked about this song is 50 is talking about paper yet he is getting at you, not straight up talking about it which he does like to do a lot.

Track 13 - Baby By Me

At one point I didn't feel that there was going to be a successful hit single for this album yet here we are with this hit.  Usually the song for the girls comes later but it was obvious 50 needed this sooner rather than later.  The beat has elements we have heard before from Polow Da Don, and it also has a guy singing hooks in Ne-Yo that has good commercial appeal right now.  A lot of the lyrics in this song are things we have heard before from our boy, so there isn't really anything special.  I guess the only positive thing I felt from this is that it gave the album the commercial appeal it had been missing.  Up to this point there was no song that would've been a hit nationwide so I guess this was somewhat necessary.

Track 14 - Do You Think About Me

I really enjoyed this beat because it sounds so fresh in this time of outer space hip-hop.  The lyrics are on point and I do feel that this could be a hit for Curtis.  The refreshing feeling this beat gives, and the fact that 50 doesn't have to sing the hook seem like the positives that could carry this to a chart climber.

Track 15 - Ok, You're Right

If you remember that this song came out in the summer than you have been paying attention to hip-hop, if not then you understand that this had no commercial appeal.  The lyrics are boring but the beat is fire.  What was lacking in an aggressive crossover hit this had, but it just didn't catch on.

Track 16 - Could've Been You

As we listen to the last track on the album its a chill track to smoke to.  I really did enjoy this some, but the one thing I've wanted is a rapper to start of hard and end hard which 50 proves might not be something he wants to do.  Of course you have to make music for everything, but another track that is slow just bores me when usually you just need 2 tracks for that.

Overall

I would say that the aggressive content is there, but there are tracks that just seem like they jump in when they don't need to be.  Curtis tries really hard to move away from the commercial album he dropped last time, but the problem is there aren't too many gems in this that could be commercially successful.  If I had to scale this album it would be a 7/10 because nothing catches my ears too much.  I tried to like some songs but I just wasn't having it.  The highlights are Psycho, So Disrespectful, Crimewave, & Death To My Enemies.  Songs that make this album worthless are songs like Hold Me Down, I Got Swag, & Get It Hot.  Overall we see that 50 tries to make an attempt to get the streets back on his side, lets see what they think...

Raekwon feat. Lyfe Jennings - Catalina (Video)

This song right here was produced by Dr. Dre for Raekwon, and the song that was created is monster.  On this track Raekwon and Lyfe Jennings are on point with the story telling moving well with the video.

Chamillionaire - Good Morning (Video)

Just got this a few minutes ago and while this song rips Tom Petty's "Free Fallin" we all know music does this all the time.  What I do wonder is if this is a good look for Chamillionaire, which I don't feel like it is, but hey I'm not the music exec...

Kingpin: The Journey (FREE MIXTAPE DOWNLOAD)

For ten months this blog has been functioning and I'm proud to say it is slowly becoming very successful.  During this time I've been trying to stay consistent with posting on topics I've felt are related to the hip-hop world.  As I continue to grow and understand the history of hip-hop, one of the most integral parts of the music is finding and listening to artists who aren't a Jay-Z or a Snoop Dogg, just yet.  Many people aspire to become famous one day in entertainment with only a few actually being able to make it.  Today I have an interview which is the first of many for this blog, along with a FREE mixtape from a rapper named Kingpin who is from Detroit.  Check out this interview as it lets us first hand get into the mind of a man on a mission to become a hip-hop superstar.

This was my first interview for this blog and I was pleased to have the opportunity to get to know Kingpin as he makes his move into the next level in Hip Hop.

Where are you from?

I'm from Detroit, born and raised. We get a lot of bad press here but its a real unique place, I wish more of the positive things we do here were praised instead of the negative. But I'm glad to be from here, I wouldn't have it any other way.

How Long Have You Been Rapping?

Technically I've been rapping for about 13 years, I started formulating songs in the late 90s, but I've been writing since I was a a little kid, so it all came together.

What Got You Into Hip Hop?

Growing up I always loved the hip-hop culture, it pretty much shapes the current world we live in to to be honest, how we dress, dance etc... But I embraced the hip-hop culture before I actually started spitting myself. People were always telling me I was creative and outspoken growing up, and I knew I was a good writer. Plus being influenced by all the great artists who came before me plus my love of the hip-hop culture got me into hip-hop as an artist. I realized I loved to rap, write rhymes, and freestyle.

Why The Name Kingpin?

I get asked this question a lot ( lol ). Kingpin's are typically portrayed as power hungry individuals, but at the core they are some of the most motivated, intelligent and focused people on this planet, and that's everything that I am.

Favorite Artists?

My favorite artist are , T.I, Lupe Fiasco, 2pac, Eminem, Scarface, Kanye, Nas,Snoop, The Cool Kids, Mos Def,  I could go on for days its so many...

What style of Hip Hop do you consider your music?

Honestly I'm all styles, I"m not limited to just one or a few, I am a product of decades of hip-hop.

Where Do You See Yourself In 5 Years?

5 years from now I'd like to be real successful at my craft, and hopefully able to expose many new people to hip-hop along the way. I want people to be able to say I worked hard to get where I am.

What Are Some Projects Your Currently Working On?

I'm currently working on a few projects. I'll be making an announcement soon. I will say this, the new stuff will be amazing, slated for a 2010 release... stay tuned.

Any Words or Advice for Future Artists?

Simply, keep it 100, with your music and in your personal life, people will respect you for it.  Make sure you triple check any type of business "deal" you are sure to encounter in this industry, getting ripped off is the worst, so always do your research.

Clipse feat Rick Ross - I'm Good (Remix)

This is a nice joint by The Clipse giving us some cruisin music with a feature from the boss Rick Ross.

Snoop Dogg - Snoop State of Mind

At times when I saw this video I thought it could be a diss.  Yes, even nearly 15 years out of the beef it seems like there could be subliminals, but maybe my brain was over thinking the lyrics.  Snoop Dogg pays a tribute to one of the greatest cities if not the greatest city in America.  New York, the place where Hip Hop was born gets this nice remix from Snoop Dogg, and honestly it's a nice look for the Doggfather.  Check it out and let me know what you think...

Ludacris - Here Me Cry feat Jennifer Hudson

Ludacris has another new song out and this one is a real chill track.  Jennifer Hudson provides the perfect vocals on the hook with Ludacris providing us very real lyrics.  If this track "Here Me Cry" is signifying a new Ludacris I'm all down for it.  From the cartoonish and fun Hip Hop songs, I think everyone should realize that this guy isn't here to talk about fun stuff.  Ludacris will touch reality and this is the perfect example

Eminem's New Movie

Word out is that Eminem will have a horror movie coming out, and the cool part is that it might be in 3-D.  Now I don't have too much information but as I did from reading the article from HipHopDX there were a few things they did mention.  The title of the movie is supposed to be called "Shady Talez", there should be a comic book series which is supposed to come before or after the movie, and Em has the producer from Will Smith's "I Robot" film involved.  Now it has been a very eventful year for Slim Shady with a rap album, video game, concerts, press appearances, and a few features but this move back into Hollywood will be an interesting one indeed.  If you've forgot, Eminem had a movie called 8 Mile which came out and was critically acclaimed, so when it comes to art there is no question that this will be a good movie...

Jay-Z is Pop, Miley is NOT?

I was on WSHH briefly this morning and I saw this video on Miley Cyrus saying a little something about Jay-Z.  In this interview Miley stated that she has never listened to a Jay-Z song, stating that she didn't even write the song along with calling Jay-Z pop.  Now don't get me wrong I'm not in the bashing business full time lol, but this diss by Miley is kinda funny.  A teenage girl not knowing a Jay-Z song cracks me up, and while we know a lot of musicians don't write there own songs, the fact that this girl didn't know not one song even for publicity purposes is kinda funny.  Anyways here is the video of the really quick interview...

The Carter Documentary

The trailer is here for The Carter Documentary and for me it doesn't give much substance but it does get me wondering.  This decade we haven't really had that one rapper who get's to everyone emotionally, and for some reason after seeing this I feel like Lil Wayne might be that rapper.

The decade of the 90's was a different era of Hip Hop as was the 80's, but here at the end of the 00's I feel like it's safe to say that based on consistency this is the decade of Lil Wayne.  His album sales combined might not be more than a single rapper's album, but the amount of work, dedication, commitment, & overall art work has Wayne in a league of his own.  One of the few rappers who is commercially challenging the borderlines of Hip Hop, Lil Wayne has made headlines, hits, controversy, and peace all with his words.  He might not be the sharpest person in the game, or the most educated, but he knows his art.

Eminem might be the 2Pac of this decade hands down, and Jay has been here for a minute, but this Carter might have pushed his way into the league of the greatest of all time.

The Words of RiRi

Rihanna finally gives us the interview we have all been waiting for, ironically it's a little before her album and Chris Brown's albums are about to drop.  Allhiphop provides us with the clips from the interview which aired on 20/20.  Here is the link to the web page: Rihanna Interview Click Here

Just Blaze vs Alchemist?!?!?!?!?!?

Ok I was on 2dopeboyz today and I saw this video which I really wanted to share because it was off the chain.  In this battle of producers Just Blaze and Alchemist go up against each other, and regardless of who people thought was the winner the performance was amazing.  I don't think they were battling hardcore but just showing us there art.  Oh yeah thanks 2dope for finding this, hot stuff.

Part 1

Part 2

The Plies Payoff

If you remember recently, the rapper Plies had a concert and saw a young girl in the crowd and paid her to leave.  Today we have the footage to show Plies doing his show then calling the girl on stage and giving her a one thousand dollar payoff.  Yea Plies had already rapped a few disturbing lyrics in front of the 11 year old girl but the fact that he acknowledged that she was there, and it was in appropriate for him to say what he said in front of her seems like class to me.  What do you think?

Juvenile - Gotta Get It (Video)

WSHH has the official video for the street single by Juvenile called "Gotta Get It" and it has me happy that my boy Juve is back.  Finally I have something to look forward to, the Juve album, along with Snoop & Game's albums.

Sigel Joins G-Unit???

50 Cent has decided to stick his head into a family beef within the ROC, and Beanie Sigel has chosen to sign with G-Unit records.  This news came yesterday where Beans was found on the radio speaking about his situation and more information about the financial aspect of his situation exposing Jay-Z.  This beef has no place for 50 and now with his album coming out, fif has decided that he will be the "Good" man and take the side of the struggling rapper.  Honestly Jay-Z does have shady ways but IF this blows up, then we could have some big trouble...

Game - Better Days

This song right here is the reason why Game is considered one of the best when it comes to modern Hip Hop.  The lyrics in this song along with the beat go harder than anything I've heard in a while even though its a nice soft track.  Overall the beat is hot, the hook is hot, the lyrics are on point and if this is a preview of the R.E.D. album, then I will be anticipating this very much.

50 Cent feat Ne-Yo - Baby By Me (Video)

I know this video just released today and I put it up immediately, but don't get me confused with someone who just rides with 50 all the time.  I ride for Hip Hop and at this time, this song is very commercially relevant in Hip Hop, plus the video has the pretty Kelly Rowland.

Jay-Z feat Alicia Keys - Empire State of Mind (Video)

This is long overdue but with all the Jay vs Beans drama along with my job I just haven't had a chance to get around to posting this.  This week I will be shooting to put up some news on the Beanie situation but right now lets enjoy some nice chill music.
